Brazilian diamond hints at vast water reserve deep inside Earth

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – A dirty-looking, commercially worthless brown diamond found in Brazil is yielding priceless information about the composition of a layer deep inside our planet.


The diamond contained a mineral called ringwoodite that entrapped a significant amount of water, an international team of scientists reported this week.

Venezuela says death toll from protests rises to 28

CARACAS, (Reuters) – Venezuela’s state prosecutor said yesterday the death toll from a month of violent protests had risen to 28, after the nation’s top court ordered opposition mayors to dismantle barricades set up by street protesters.


State prosecutor Luisa Ortega Diaz, speaking on the sidelines of the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva, also said 1,293 detainees had been released and 104 remained in custody accused of serious crimes during the anti-government demonstrations.

New state of the art recycling plant coming to T&T

(Trinidad Express) In an effort to reduce Trinidad’s carbon footprints, Minister of State in the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Ramona Ramdial said, Trinidad and Tobago will have a state-of-the art recycling plant very soon.


“The recycling plant would cost around $400mTT,” Ramdial said.

Central Bank: Increase in agriculture supply

US tells T&T: Remove petroleum subsidies

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago, Guardian -The United States wants countries including T&T to remove its subsidies on petroleum products, according to a high-ranking US State official. In what is called a background briefing at the US State Department here in Washington DC, the high-ranking official, who the media are not allowed to name, said it was US government policy that it remove subsidies from petroleum products and would like to see other countries follow.

“I’m surprised that they can draw a conclusion without any discussions with us and I’m even more surprised that anyone can draw conclusions without any facts when we ourselves have to appoint an expert panel in order to reach a conclusion,” said Mohammed.
