Jamaican cell phone users to get number portability – Technology Minister

Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, Hon. Phillip Paulwell, says the Government will deliver on its promise that cellular phone users will have number portability by the end of May this year.

Number portability will allow cellular phone users to carry their numbers across ports when they switch their service providers.

Premier Romeo briefs EU-OCT meeting on potential of geothermal energy

The Hon. Premier of Montserrat, Donaldson Romeo made a presentation this morning (Friday 27th February 2015) on geothermal energy at the conference of the European Commission and EU Overseas Countries and Territories being held in Tortola British Virgin Islands.

Mr Romeo was at the time taking part in a round table event captioned ” Regional Cooperation: Unlocking the Potential of OCTs”.

It was part of the 13th Overseas Countries and Territories – European Union Forum, which ends today.

Belize Court of Appeal President visits CCJ

The Honourable Sir Manuel Sosa, President of the Court of Appeal of Belize and former Chief Justice of Belize, visited Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago 23-26 February 2015, as a guest of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ).

The visit was as a result of an invitation extended by the President of the CCJ, the Right Honourable Sir Dennis Byron, in order to facilitate the efforts by the Belizean Court of Appeal to improve the administration of justice.

NORTH ANDROS, The Bahamas -- Ministers of Agriculture of the Caribbean Community toured the Bahamas Agriculture and Marine Science Institute just prior to CARICOM’s opening of the 26th Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean in Nassau, February 26-27.

The Bahamas Minister of Agriculture, Marine Resources and Local Government the Hon. V. Alfred Gray thanked the agriculture representatives for taking the tour of the North Andros agricultural initiative with him. 

Broadband the key to bringing ‘education to all’, says UN Broadband Commission

Paris, 27 February 2015 – Mobile phones, tablets and e-readers with broadband connectivity could prove the long-sought panacea in the global effort to bring quality, ubiquitous multidisciplinary educational opportunities to people everywhere, especially the world’s poorest or most isolated communities, according to the UN Broadband Commission for Digital Development, which held its 11th meeting at UNESCO headquarters in Paris today.

Government to Partner with Microsoft on E3 Solution Platform Initiative

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua and Barbuda – 26th February 2015……The Ministry of Information, Broadcasting, Telecommunications and Information Technology will be signing a milestone agreement with Microsoft on Monday 2nd March 2015.

 

Microsoft officials arrived on island earlier this week, to discuss the particulars of the partnership with Minister of Information, Broadcasting, Telecommunications and Information Technology, the Hon. Melford Nicholas. 

 

FAO aligns work to assist Regional Agri Plans

The United Nations Food& Agriculture Organization is aligning its global, regional, sub-regional and national work processes to cohesively assist the development strategies of Caribbean countries, the Director General of FAO Dr. José Graziano da Silva said during the opening of the Meeting of Caribbean Ministers of Agriculture with the Director General.
