KINGSTON, Jamaica, Tuesday August 4, 2015 – Government is moving to expand the cassava industry through partnerships with the private sector and the University of the West Indies, with support from the Colombian government.
Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, said the partnership between government and the manufacturer of Jamaican beer Red Stripe, which is using the tuber as part of its brewing process, has shown that the industry can grow.

JetBlue recently launched a program to increase planning for sustainable tourism in the Caribbean region through grants to students who will focus on using science to improve the travel experience for customers and communities now and in the future.

WASHINGTON (CMC) – The Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) has called for more employers to support breast feeding mothers in the Americas, including the Caribbean.
In a message to mark World Breastfeeding Week from August 1-7, PAHO said employers who supported breastfeeding were not only taking the “ethical high road” but were likely to reap benefits for their businesses and their countries’ economies.
For the first time in Animae Caribe Festival’s fifteen-year history, region-wide participation will be achieved. From October 28-31, 2015, in Trinidad and Tobago, ten representatives from Caribbean animation studios will participate in round table discussions and the inaugural ‘Animated Ideas Bootcamp’.
Animated Ideas Bootcamp is a collaborative training and development project that encourages group participation for the advancement of animated series concepts for pitching and production.
GROS ISLET, St Lucia — Government climate negotiators and civil society groups from the Caribbean who met with artistes and journalists here last week have discussed strategies to drum up local awareness and attract international attention as part of the region's preparation for the climate change meeting in Paris at the end of the year.
The plan is to roll out some of the projects simultaneously across the region ahead of the Paris talks and stage one or two others during the session.
