Jetblue CEO to keynote CTO State of the Industry Conference

(BRIDGETOWN, Barbados) The head of one of the world’s most acclaimed airlines will keynote the region’s most valued tourism gathering. The president and chief executive officer of JetBlue Airways, Robin Hayes, will address the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO)’s State of the Industry Conference (SOTIC), which takes place from 21 -23 October in Curaçao.

Trinidad and Tobago outlines $2 billion climate plan

Trinidad and Tobago has become the first Caribbean nation to outline its contribution to a UN climate deal, proposing limited greenhouse gas cuts across three main sectors by 2030.

The government says it will target 15% carbon reductions in power generation, heavy industry and transport over the next 15 years, modelled on a business as usual baseline.

Law Students Across the Caribbean Join Together to Participate in World Day Against Trafficking In Persons

Students across law schools in the Caribbean joined hands to participate in a global online campaign to raise awareness on World Day Against Trafficking In Persons. They spoke out about the crime in their countries and showed solidarity with its victims in their societies.

Draft National Youth Policy completed; to be sent to President, Education Minister

A draft National Youth Policy 2015 has been completed and a copy of it will soon be in the hands of President David Granger and Minister of Education Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine, according to Presidential Advisor on Youth Empowerment Aubrey Norton.

Norton told the Government Information Agency (GINA) that the completed draft was largely restructured and now reflects clearer policy objectives and that performance measures are included for every objective.

UN hosts campaign for International Youth Day

The engagement and participation of youth is essential to achieve sustainable human development. Yet, often, the opportunities for youth to engage politically, economically and socially are low or non-existent. More efforts are needed to raise awareness about the importance of youth civic engagement and its benefits to the individual and to society, including for sustainable development as well as resilience and well being.

Caribbean Seeks to Provide Additional Support to Existing Investors

Targeting existing investors to reinvest in the Caribbean and creating linkages in the domestic economy between investors and local suppliers to drive investment growth were issues at the centre of the strategy recommended to the region’s’ Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs) at the recently held workshop facilitated by the Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) in collaboration with the Caribbean Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (CAIPA) on 27-28 July in St. Lucia.
