Eastern Caribbean Development Partners Group convene post Tropical Storm Matthew while the North-Western Caribbean braces for hurricane impact

A meeting of the Eastern Caribbean Development Partner Group – Disaster Management (ECDPG-DM) was convened at the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) on Thursday September 29, 2016 to discuss the impact caused by the passage of Tropical Storm (TS) Matthew. Thirty-five (35) members representing various regional and international development agencies were present to receive a preliminary impact assessment provided by CDEMA.  This was based on national situation reports received to date, current population data and potential impact.

Belize City, Friday (CRFM)—Fifteen fisheries personnel from the Region travelled to Australia this week to participate in a specialised training course on ‘Enhancing Fisheries Management Capacity in the Caribbean Region’.

The Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) and the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS) partnered in developing the four-week course, to strengthen the Region’s capacity in fisheries law and fisheries management.

Collaboration key to creating single ICT space – Barbados Telecommunications Minister

(Barbados Government Information Service) Minister responsible for Telecommunications in Barbados, Senator Darcy Boyce, has stressed the importance of collaboration between Caribbean countries if the regional vision of a single ICT (Information and Communications Technology) space is to be achieved.

Senator Boyce, who is also president of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), was speaking yesterday at the opening ceremony of the 2016 ICT Week, taking place at the Crane Resort under the auspices of the CTU.
