Regional Nursing Body Meets in Guyana
Nurses from across the Caribbean Community are currently gathered at the CARICOM Secretariat for the Forty-Fourth General Meeting of the Regional Nursing Body. The meeting got underway on Tuesday with an opening ceremony and will continue until Friday August 11, 2017.
CHTA JOINS FORCES WITH TRAVEL ASSOCIATIONS WORLDWIDE TO UNIFY SECTOR
MIAMI (August 9, 2017) - The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) is partnering with travel associations around the world to strengthen the tourism sector in the region.
President of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) Karolin Troubetzkoy disclosed that under the stewardship of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), CHTA has joined forces with close to a dozen regional and national travel organizations to advocate for the sector among governments, legislators and economists.
British Virgin Islands cleans up after flash flood
Tortola, British Virgin Islands – The British Virgin Islands (BVI) is in full “clean up mode” following extensive flooding in certain areas of the Territory with the hardest impact occurring on the island of Tortola. Heavy and steady precipitation from the tropical wave caused flooding in low lying areas as well as damage to streets and sporadic landslides.

CET, Rules of Origin critical to viability, competitiveness of indigenous industries – Review Consultation hears
The protection of indigenous industries to ensure their viability and competitiveness on the global market and the harmonisation of rates across CARICOM were among the key concerns raised at a Consultation on the revision of CARICOM’s two trade instruments.
The trade and revenue instruments are the CARICOM Common External Tariff (CET) and the Rules of Origin.

British Virgin Islands To Host Ctu’s Caribbean Internet Governance Forum
St Kitts and Nevis to be region’s first nation to eliminate mother-child HIV transmissions
St Kitts and Nevis looks set to become the first country in the Organisation of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), CARICOM, and the Americas – outside of Cuba – to end to mother-to-child HIV transmission.
Prime Minister Timothy Harris made the announcement during his month press conference.
The news follows his recent trip to New York City, where he attended a forum to promote healthcare partnerships. Harris is CARICOM’s lead head responsible for human resource development, health and HIV.
Parliamentarians fighting against hunger in Latin America, Caribbean
Bridgetown, Barbados – The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), Sub-Regional Office for the Caribbean in Barbados, last month hosted parliamentarians from 13CARICOM Member States to address the issues of food insecurity, hunger and malnutrition in the region.
