ST GEORGES, Grenada (GIS) – Grenada, with the support of the Indian government, is establishing a Centre of Excellence in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Under the project – the first of its kind in the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) – India is providing equipment for ICT Centre, which is expected to open by September.

The project involves the upgrading and expanding of an existing facility of the Grenada Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) in St Georges.

CARACAS, Venezuela — Maps of Venezuela hanging on the walls of schoolrooms and in government offices show a large striped area to the east of the country’s border with Guyana marked “Zone in Reclamation.” For more than a century, Venezuela has claimed that it is the rightful owner of this zone, which consists of about three-quarters of Guyana’s national territory. The longstanding feud has often darkened relations between the two nations.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – The Trinidad and Tobago Debates Commission is appealing to Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar to re-consider her decision not to participate in a leader’s debate on Tuesday as the voters prepare to elect Mayors and Local Government councilors on October 21.
The debate on Tuesday would have involved the leaders of the coalition People’s Partnership government, the main opposition People’s National Movement, the recently formed Independent Liberal Party (ILP) and the Movement for Social Justice (MSJ).

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Government is being advised, by two well-known economists, to begin making contingency plans to limit the impact that a prolonged impasse in the US could have on Antigua & Barbuda’s economy.
Regional economist McCarthy Marie and local economist and political analyst Carlon Knight agree that a prolonged US government shutdown coupled with a failure to lift the debt ceiling could spell big trouble for the region.
