Rambarran urges IMF to tackle Caribbean debt

debt PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - Central Bank Governor Jwala Rambarran has called on the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde to move quickly to address the debt challenges and low economic growth issues facing Caribbean countries.
Governor Rambarran made the call at the 2013 Caribbean Breakfast Meeting with Lagarde at the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group International Monetary Fund, in Washington, DC yesterday morning.

Antigua and Barbuda launches Citizenship by Investment programme

Antigua Reclassified As High Income

KINGSTON, Jamaica - In its publication on remittances released last month, the World Bank said Antigua & Barbuda has regained its status as a high income economy, leaving the majority of regional developing states behind.
The reversal comes after the island of 89,070 residents finalised an International Monetary Fund programme.
Alessandro Legrottaglie, the World Bank's senior country officer for Antigua, who also has responsibility for the OECS, said Wednesday that Antigua moved into the 'high income' category on July 1, 2013.

UN caused deadly cholera in Haiti, covered it up, lawsuit says

Survivors and family members of nearly 700,000 Haitians who have contracted cholera are suing the United Nations for billions of dollars, accusing the U.N. of covering up its role in starting the worst outbreak of the deadly disease in modern history.
“They have to help us because there are so many kids that are orphans now, that lost their mom, that lost their dads,” said plaintiff Felicia Paule, 45, who survived cholera but lost a daughter, brother and nephew to the disease. “They’re responsible, so they have to help.”
