CARICOM Foreign Ministers engage German interest groups

CARICOM Foreign Ministers held wide-ranging engagements with various interest groups in addition to meeting their German counterpart, 2-3 March 2015.

The Foreign Ministers met with representatives  of the German business sector in Berlin, representatives of the renewable energy sector in Hamburg on the morning of March 3, and with parliamentary representatives from the Latin American and Caribbean Commission of the German parliament.

CARICOM and Germany renew commitment

At the Conference of   Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Foreign Ministers and Germany, held on 2-3 March 2015, in Berlin, representatives renewed their commitment to further strengthen existing fields of cooperation and to explore new areas for interaction.

The Conference, held at the invitation of the government of Germany, “noted with satisfaction the steady and continuous progress in… relations”, between Germany and the Region.

PANCAP and Haiti to Foster Closer Collaboration

Port-au-Prince, Haiti  --  Mr Dereck Springer, Director of the Coordinating Unit of the Pan Caribbean Partnership Against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) visited Haiti last week, 2- 5 March,  to strengthen relationships with various stakeholders. 

 

Initiatives To Facilitate Building Of Cultural Industries Are To Be Announced

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves says the Government will shortly be making announcements in relation to the introduction of initiatives to facilitate the building of cultural industries here.

He made the disclosure during a News Conference on Tuesday, as he provided the media with an update on the issues discussed at the 26th Intersessional Meeting of Caricom, held in the Bahamas last month.

Swedish Ambassador to CARICOM pays courtesy call on PM Harris

Basseterre, St. Kitts -  Sweden’s Ambassador to CARICOM, His Excellency Claes Hammer, paid a courtesy call on St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris on Monday, 9 March at his office at Government Headquarters.

Ambassador Hammer presented Prime Minister Harris with a congratulatory letter from his Government. Discussions were held on the way forward towards greater cooperation between Sweden and St. Kitts and Nevis. Ambassador Hammer was accompanied by resident Honourary Consul for Sweden, Kathleen Allen-Ferdinand.

CARICOM Member States participate in OAS Cyber Security Training Course

The Organization of American States (OAS) on Monday began a training course on Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs) aimed at technical staff responsible for the development and management of CSIRTs from Dominica, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Nicaragua, St. Kitts and Nevis, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago, at its headquarters in Washington, DC.

Dominica PM wants more debate on marijuana issue

ROSEAU, Dominica, CMC – Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says he is not completely sold on the idea of decriminalising small amounts of marijuana as regional countries debate the issue.

Speaking on the state-owned DBS radio, Skerrit asked what would be done with the “excess” if the authorities agree to enact legislation allowing for the use of small quantities of the illegal drug.

“What do you do with the excess, and you don’t want to be encouraging the trafficking of this drug to other countries and what would be your relationship with the rest of the world.”

Caribbean Labour Ministers commit to strengthening social dialogue … while focusing on youth employment and the greening of the economy

PORT OF SPAIN (ILO) – The 9th International Labour Organization (ILO) Meeting of Caribbean Labour Ministers concluded on March 4, 2015, with a commitment to strengthen social dialogue further both at the national and regional levels, and with renewed impetus to focus on creative solutions to the problem of youth unemployment and the greening of the economy.  The Meeting, themed “Decent Work for Sustainable Development”, was attended by 21 delegations headed by 14 ministers with responsibility for labour issues.
