Dominica gets maximum payout from CCRIF for flood damage

The CCRIF SPC, formerly the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility, has made a payment of EC$6.5 million (US$2.4 million), the maximum payable under the policy, to the government of Dominica under the Facility’s Excess Rainfall Programme, as a result of rains that occurred during Tropical Storm Erika on August 27, 2015.

CCRIF will also, following consultation with the government, provide additional financial assistance under its Technical Assistance Programme, for specific rebuilding projects.

Grenada, China Sign MOU on Air Transport Cooperation

China and Grenada signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on air transport cooperation on September 11, according to a statement on the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC)'s website.

Keith Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada, visited the Chinese aviation regulator after he attended the 7th World Economic Forum, also known as the Summer Davos Forum, which was launched in Northeast China's Dalian on September 9-10.

Barbados Lends Financial Support To Dominica

The Government of Barbados has pledged US $100,000 to bolster the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency’s relief efforts in Dominica.

Moreover, says Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, that financial aid “will not be the extent” of the support Barbados will give.

Mr. Stuart, who is also Chairman of CARICOM, gave this assurance during a press conference on Wednesday evening, following his return to Barbados from a tour to assess the full extent of the damage caused by Tropical Storm Erika in Dominica.

Belize donates to Dominica recovery programme

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belize is pleased to inform that the Government of Belize will make a cash contribution in the sum of US$125,000 to the Government of Dominica for its relief efforts.

REETA Project donates US$1,000 towards the CARICOM Secretariat Staff Association Back-to-School Supplies Drive for Dominica

The Staff Association of the Caribbean Community Secretariat‘s initiative to assist the students of Dominica was given a boost with the contribution of US$1,000 towards the Back-to-School Supplies Drive.

Mr. Andreas Taeuber, Head, REETA Project in presenting the contribution to Ms. Mignon Bowen–Phillips, President, Staff Association also took the opportunity to applaud the manner in which the staff of the Secretariat and the people of the Community have supported Dominica in its hour of need.

CDB, Agri Ministry in drive to boost aquaculture

THE Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) recently hosted a workshop for staff of the Ministry of Agriculture as it seeks to support the advancement of the aquaculture sector in Guyana.
From August 17 to 21, 2015, CDB conducted a workshop on aquaculture farm management techniques for ministry employees – a training initiative that aims to revitalise the sector and improve the livelihoods of aquaculture entrepreneurs. 

CARICOM Chairman to tour storm-hit Dominica

Barbados Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Freundel Stuart will leave the island today, Wednesday, September 9, to tour the areas in Dominica hardest hit by Tropical Storm Erika.

Prime Minister. Stuart, who is also Chairman of CARICOM, will be accompanied by Chief of Staff of the Barbados Defence Force, Colonel Alvin Quintyne; and Executive Director of the Regional Security System (RSS), Grantley Prescod.
