Caribbean Carbon Forum 2015 looks towards International Climate Conference

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Government of Chile will host the 9th Latin American and Caribbean Carbon Forum (LACCF 2015) next week with “an eye” on the forthcoming International Climate Conference in Paris.

In a release on Wednesday, the World Bank said TLACCF 2015 will take place in Santiago, Chile from September 9-11.

 

The conference will cover the latest developments in market-based mechanisms to address climate change, carbon trading, climate finance, and low-emission development.

 

CARICOM SG receives Guyana Private Sector Commission donations for storm-hit Dominica

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque today received a donation of items from member companies of the Guyana Private Sector Commission (PSC) to support the recovery effort in storm-damaged Dominica.

The donation of a wide range of medical supplies, generators, cleaning items and cash were presented by New Guyana Pharmaceutical Company, Gaico Construction and General Services Inc., National Hardware and CAMEX.

CARICOM Youth Ambassadors launch Dominica drive

The CARICOM Youth Ambassadors (CYAs) Corps today launched an “I am CARICOM” drive to raise “much needed financial assistance for storm-affected Dominica”.

“This drive has been named ‘I AM CARICOM’ as we declare as one single Caribbean Community to be each other’s keeper”, the CYA said in a release.

Open Data, Open Mapping: TeachOSM in the Caribbean

Web-based mapping is an activity of growing importance in many countries around the world, especially in places where base map data is often scarce and out of date. Governments are collecting more and more data, including geospatial data, and are beginning to understand the social and economic benefits of sharing the data. As part of the World Bank-DFID partnership to support Open Data in the Caribbean, Maggie Cawley and Steven Johnson conducted one-day open mapping workshops in Castries, St. Lucia, and Kingston, Jamaica during June 2015.

Montserrat sends Defence Force contingent to Dominica

With the passage of Tropical Storm Erika and coming right after the conclusion of the Royal Montserrat Defence Force annual camp the Government of Montserrat with the UK Department for International Development support has decided to deploy a contingent from the Force to Dominica. The contingent will carry out disaster relief work and support CDEMA in their work on that island.
