Grenada’s efforts to promote Regional integration appreciated – CARICOM SG

Grenada’s efforts to promote Regional integration, particularly in the area of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), have been lauded by CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque.

The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation in a message to Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell on the occasion of Grenada’s 42nd Independence anniversary observed on 7 February.

OECS countries agree on harmonized approach to fight against Zika

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, Friday February 5, 2016 – Ministers of Health of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) have agreed on a harmonized approach to combating the fast spreading Zika virus which has already affected more than 20 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

OECS chairman and Grenada’s Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell, who made the announcement yesterday, said the effort includes monitoring and surveillance, eradication and protection, care and case management, and public education campaigns.

President Martelly signs agreement to end political stalemate

 Haiti’s outgoing President Michel Martelly on Saturday reached an agreement with parliament to form a caretaker government when he leaves power ton Sunday.

Media reports say under the agreement parliament will elect an interim president for a four-month term.

A presidential runoff due to be held last month was scrapped after opposition candidate Jude Celestin threatened to boycott the vote over allegations of fraud in the first round, and protesters took to the streets in force.

CELAC adopts CARICOM’s call for reparations

The Community of Latin and American States CELAC Parliamentary group has adopted the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM) call for reparations for native genocide and the enslavement of African people in the Caribbean through the Trans-Atlantic slave trade.
