CARPHA to zero in on ZIKA on Monday

Dr. James Hospedales, Executive Director of the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) and senior technical officers will engage the media on Monday on issues related to Zika, including facts about the disease, tourism and health, and surveillance and ethical issues.

The Press Conference will be held at 9 am at CARPHA’s Headquarters at 16-18 Jamaica Boulevard, Federation Park, Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

CARICOM and Italy strengthen ties

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Italy continued on the path of stronger relations on Wednesday as the new Italian Ambassador to the Community presented his credentials at the Secretariat’s Georgetown, Guyana headquarters.

Regional Procurement Regime Consultations Continue

The CARICOM Secretariat continues its series of national consultations in Member States to advance the implementation of the Community Procurement Regime within the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME). On Tuesday, January 19, Belize wrapped up its two-day consultation that focused on the system requirements and infrastructure for a fully functioning Community Public Procurement Notice Board (CPPNB). The (CPPNB) is the electronic platform and system that will be established for the publication of all procurement opportunities in Member States.

Washington, D.C., 18 January 2016 (PAHO/WHO) — With the Zika virus now circulating in 18 countries and territories of Latin America and the Caribbean, the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) is recommending that its member countries monitor and report any increases in neurological syndromes and congenital anomalies, which growing evidence suggests may be linked to Zika infections.

CDB hosts ‘Conversation’ on gender socialisation

Gender stereotypes can be imposed on children from infancy, and therefore, the process of dispelling them must start in the early childhood years of development. This was a central message as the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) hosted a Conversation on Gender Socialisation and Early Childhood Development (ECD), entitled ‘Teaching Them’, at its headquarters in Barbados on Friday January 15, 2016.
