CARICOM SG congratulates re-elected Vincentian Leader

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador LaRocque has congratulated Dr. Ralph Gonsalves on his party’s victory in the recent elections in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and his re-election to office as the nation’s leader.

Dr. Gonsalves’ Unity Labour Party (ULP) won eight of the 15 seats at stake in the December 9 general elections to register the party’s fourth consecutive victory at the polls.  

Ensure implementation of Paris Agreement provisions

 Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Rt. Honourable Freundel Stuart, Prime Minister of Barbados, has applauded the historic Paris Agreement on Climate Change. The adoption in Paris on Saturday, 12 December 2015, followed the conclusion of the 21st Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

CARICOM, Italy sign cooperation agreement

​CARICOM and Italy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation in areas of mutual interest, Thursday.

CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque and Italy’s Special Envoy for the Countries of the Caribbean, Paolo Serpi signed the   document on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change conference, COP 21 in Paris, France.

The MOU is expected to strengthen political, scientific and technical relations, and promote development cooperation. The Major areas of focus will include:

Results reflect the will of the people – CARICOM Observer Mission

The CARICOM Elections Observer Mission (CEOM) to St. Vincent and the Grenadines said on Thursday that its assessment of the day’s activities was that the voters were able to cast their ballots without intimidation or harassment.

In a preliminary statement released on Thursday afternoon, the Mission added that the results of the elections reflected the will of the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

CARICOM negotiators push key issues as COP 21 releases draft agreement

As negotiators review a preliminary draft agreement issued Wednesday at the UN Climate Change conference, COP 21, in Paris, CARICOM Ministers and Heads of delegations are pressing for outstanding concerns to be adequately represented in the final outcome agreement, due on Friday.

Prime Minister Browne appreciative of relations with Cuba

Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, the Hon. Gaston Browne, has identified health, the development of human resources, construction and sports among the areas of high level cooperation between Cuba and the countries of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

Such cooperation, he said, had effectively contributed to the growth of well-being of the peoples of the Community.

His comments were contained in a Statement issued on the occasion of CARICOM-Cuba Day which was observed on December 8, 2015.

CARICOM Chair lauds Community’s close ties with Cuba

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has reiterated its commitment to further strengthening and enhancing the close bonds of camaraderie and cooperation with Cuba.
