Trinidad to host conference of Americas Defence Ministers

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (Caribbean News Now) -The 12th Conference of Defence Ministers of the Americas (XII CDMA) will be held in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago from October 10-12, 2016. During this three-day conference an unprecedented number of ministers of defence and delegates from the 34 nation states representing the Americas are scheduled to attend.

Prior to this conference, a two-day preparatory meeting was held in April marking the initial rounds of discussions among nations, officially launching the conference.

When the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) launches its new Education and Training Policy and Strategy later in 2016, it will have had the input of some of the Caribbean Region’s key stakeholders. The Bank has undertaken a consultative process to ensure that the document, which will guide its funding and support for education and training in the Region, is aligned to countries’ specific needs. In addition to guiding the Bank’s development assistance to its Borrowing Member Countries (BMCs), the Strategy and Policy will take into account regional and global agendas on education.

WASHINGTON, Jul. 28, CMC – The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) says it has collaborated with the Organization of American States (OAS) in launching a new Plan of Action for the Americas, including the Caribbean, for Implementation of the International Decade for People of African Descent.

PAHO says the initiative seeks to strengthen public policies to protect the rights of this population in the region, “and ensure their full and equal participation between now and 2025.”

CDB approves funds for more climate resilient Caribbean transport sector

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Jul. 28, CMC – The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has approved funds to address the high incidence of damage to the road infrastructure in Caribbean countries by natural hazard events and the potential for the loss of roads by rising sea levels.

Through a technical assistance project, the Bank provide US$768,000 to fund a study on approaches for mainstreaming climate resilience into the road transport sector in its Borrowing Member Countries (BMCs).
