Saint Lucians vote for change

The United Workers Party (UWP) led by businessman and former Tourism Minister Allen Chastenet was voted into office in St. Lucia’s general elections, Monday.

 

Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister-elect, Allen Chastanet, has asserted that his new government will be committed to delivering to the people of this country.

Chastanet, whose United Workers Party (UWP) won eleven of the 17 seats at stake in the June 6, 2016 general elections, said he was pleased and elated by the win.

Raúl Castro Meets Presidents of Haiti, Guyana, Jamaica and Suriname

Havana.- President Raúl Castro has met the provisional President of Haiti, Jocelerme Privert; Guyanese President, David Granger; Suriname's Desire Delano Bouterse, and the Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness, in Havana.

The Cuban head of State held talks on Sunday with the leaders of these Caribbean nations as they participated in the 7th Summit of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), which recently concluded in Havana, national television reported.

CDB funding Caribbean music sector development

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados -- The Caribbean region is known and celebrated for reggae and dancehall, soca, zouk and other genres. Yet many regional artistes, performers, their managers and publishers do not earn a sustainable living from their craft. The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), noting the challenges facing the region’s music sector and affirming its support for the creative industries, has committed funding for a workshop series designed for Caribbean music sector stakeholders.

Electric vehicle road show underway in St Vincent and the Grenadines

Heritage Square in St Vincent and the Grenadines is the venue for the Electric Vehicle Road Show. The show began this morning and will conclude at 3.00 pm.

The general public will have the opportunity to drive and understand the operation of electric vehicles. The event will also provide an opportunity for attendees to interact with electric vehicle suppliers and subject experts in the field of sustainable energy to gain understanding about how this technology can provide a cheaper and cleaner alternative to their transport needs.

 

CDB helps Haitian entrepreneurs find the recipe for success

In Haiti, small-business owner Isabelle Laguerre Mevs has found the recipe for success. Her company turns local produce into condiments that are in demand across the island. Today, the pepper sauce, honey, vinegar, and green seasoning sauce are now on local supermarket shelves and in a number of Haitian restaurants and hotels.

Since 2013, Stars Industries S.A. (SISA) has been growing  into a fruitful agro-processing enterprise. One year after opening, the demand for the company’s pepper sauce product was increasing. SISA needed technical guidance and support.
