Opposition Leader critical of supplemental bill seeking millions for airport

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC - Opposition Leader Arnhim Eustace Monday said a bill asking Parliament to approve EC$208 million (One EC dollar = US$0.37 cents) in further loans to help finance the EC$652 million Argyle International Airport “nearly shocked the life out of me”. PM Gonsalves wants 90-minute talks with Trinidad PM on fuel subsidy

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC – Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves says he has requested a 90-minute meeting with his Trinidadian counterpart, Kamla Persad Bissessar, next month to discuss the Caribbean Air Navigation and Advisory Services (CANAS) and regional airline, LIAT. Gonsalves said when he was in Port of Spain on Tuesday for talks with United States Vice President Joe Biden “I spoke to the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago and I suggested to her that when we have the Heads of Government meeting in July, I asked her if she could put aside about 90 minutes (so) that we can talk”.

St. Vincent PM Gonsalves calls for private sector investment in regional fast ferry service

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC -- Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves says implementing a fast ferry service in the southern Caribbean is a risk the private sector must take, with government assistance.
“This is not as easy as some people think. It is a lot of money which is involved. In fact, the reason why you haven’t had it, despite all sort of efforts, is because it is a difficult proposition,” Gonsalves said at the 43rd special meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) that ended here late on Wednesday.

St. Vincent PM welcomes soft loan from ALBA

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC – Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves says the Bolivarian Alliance for Our Americas (ALBA) Bank is making available a US$40 million loan to St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Gonsalves told legislators that a delegation from the bank had been here and that the money would be used for the completion of the international airport at Agyle. Gonsalves later told the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) that the loan would be for 22 years with a two year grace period.

St Vincent PM calls for regional meeting on reparations

(CARICOM News Network) St. John’s, Antigua- Prime Minister of St Vincent & the Grenadines Dr Ralph Gonsalves has offered his home nation as a possible location to host a meeting of an exploratory committee on reparations. “I am suggesting a special regional conference on reparations, including governments NGOs and distinguished personalities of relevance,” he said. “This conference ought to be convened and I am offering St Vincent and the Grenadines to host it,” he added.

PM welcomes high level delegations from Venezuela and Cuba

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC -- Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has held talks with a delegation from the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) bank and says the country could receive financial assistance for projects in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Gonsalves said he had held talks with the 11-member delegation on Monday and that he had also met with a team from Cuba. “President (of Venezuela, Nicholas) Maduro sent them to see me, headed by the president of the ALBA Bank. And I want to say to you, some good money (is) coming.

PM says economy shows slight improvement

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC – Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves says the local economy has shown slight improvement during the first three months of this year , but that preliminary figures show a “deterioration” in April. “On the face of it, for the first three months, we have an improvement in the fiscal situation. But, I have seen the preliminary numbers, which have not been confirmed to me yet in relation to April and I see a deterioration in April.

LIAT to present summary of legal opinion to Trinidad PM

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC – Shareholder governments of the regional airline, LIAT, have agreed to provide a summary of a legal opinion to Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar regarding the "unfair” subsidy given to the state-owned Caribbean Airlines (CAL), Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said here Tuesday.

OAS CSEP Project Host Workshop on Energy Efficiency Designs for Office and Public Buildings in Tropical Climates

The Organisation of Amercan States (OAS) Secretariat through the Caribbean Sustainable Energy Program (CSEP) and the Energy Efficiency Working Group of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA), hosted a workshop on energy efficiency designs for office and public buildings in tropical climates. The event took place at the Bay Gardens Inn in Rodney Bay from February 28th through March 1st, 2013. The CARICOM Secretariat is a Partner of the CSEP Project.
