BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – St. Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves is questioning on what grounds the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) or even the Commonwealth can intervene in the political situation in St. Kitts-Nevis. Opposition legislators have accused regional governments of remaining silent on the political stalemate in the twin-island Federation occasioned by the refusal to date of the Parliament to debate a motion of no confidence filed against the government of Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas.

ST. VINCENT-AVIATION- PM says “lack of discipline” contributes to LIAT’s problems

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC – Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves is blaming a “lack of discipline” by some members of the regional airline, LIAT, for some of the problems being experienced by travellers in recent months. Speaking on a radio programme here on Monday, Gonsalves, who is chairman of the LIAT shareholder governments, recalled instances over the past few days where the airline had been delayed as a result of non-scheduling circumstances.

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC – Opposition Leader Arnhim Eustace is calling on the St. Vincent and the Grenadines government to re-think its position on the issue of economic citizenship programme. The Ralph Gonsalves government repealed the citizenship by investment (CIP) programme soon after it came to power in 2001 and Prime Minister Gonsalves has already said he has no intention of following other Caribbean countries in providing the programme that is aimed at luring foreign investors.

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC – Outgoing St. Vincent and the Grenadines Ambassador to the United States, Camillo Gonsalves, is not prepared to say now whether or not he will be a candidate in the 2015 general elections.
Gonsalves, the son of Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, returned here last week after serving as the island’s UN ambassador since 2007, amidst speculation he is being tipped to take over the leadership of the ruling Unity Labour Party (ULP).

ST. VINCENT-POLITICS-Opposition Leader wants PM Gonsalves to lobby CARICOM to intervene in St. Kitts

KINGSTOWN, St, Vincent, CMC - Opposition Leader Arnhim Eustace has written to Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves asking him to lobby his Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to intervene in the ongoing political situation in St. Kitts and Nevis.

“This state of affairs is patently unacceptable,” Eustace said in his letter to Prime Minister Gonsalves.

Opposition legislators in St. Kitts-Nevis have been calling on the Parliament to debate a motion of no confidence in the government of Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas.

ST. VINCENT-AGRICULTURE-Government continuing efforts to eradicate Black Stigatoka disease

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC – The St. Vincent and the Grenadines government Monday said it was concerned that farmers were abandoning their field even as the authorities continue with their efforts aimed at eradicating the Black Stigatoka disease which has severely affected banana farms on the island.

Agriculture Minister Saboto Caesar said that while “Operation Cutback” will continue and that the authorities will, over the next five days, begin the third aerial cycle for the year, some farms were being abandoned.

Global insurer to expand study on Caribbean coral

HAMILTON, Bermuda (CMC) – A global specialty property insurer has announced that it is expanding its study of coral reefs with a new campaign in the Caribbean and Bermuda. On Thursday, the Catlin Group Limited said based on the Catlin Seaview Survey, it will "significantly widen opportunities for ocean, coral and climate scientists to understand the changes occurring within the region". The group said the survey started in Belize and will move on to Mexico, Anguilla, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Guadeloupe, Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas in the coming months.

PM seeks apology from newspaper and columnist

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC – Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves Monday said he had instructed his lawyers to write a newspaper and a columnist seeking an apology over a story it ran regarding the charges laid against opposition senator report Vynnette Frederick.

Opposition Leader comments on political impasse in St. Kitts-Nevis

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC - St. Vincent and the Grenadines Opposition Leader Arnhim Eustace is calling on St. Kitts-Nevis Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas to have parliament debate a motion of no confidence in his administration without delay.
“You know, there is a creeping thing which is happening in these islands now. You had it in Grenada, you have it in St. Kitts now and we have it here too,” Eustace said at a protest meeting of his New Democratic Party (NDP) over the weekend.

Talks fail to resolve issue on fuel subsidy

KINGTSOWN, St. Vincent, CMC – Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves says recent talks with the Trinidad and Tobago government to address the issue of the fuel subsidy given to the Port of Spain-based Caribbean Airlines (CAL) have failed to resolve the matter.
Gonsalves is chairman of the regional shareholder governments that owned the Antigua-based airline, LIAT, which has accused the administration in Port of Spain of providing an illegal subsidy to CAL.
