CARICOM CHAIRMAN CHARGES YOUTH LEADERS TO GET INVOLVED IN POLITICS

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) President of the Republic of Suriname and Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) H.E. Desire Delano Bouterse, on Thursday, challenged CARICOM Youth Ambassadors and youth leaders from the 12-member Union of South American Countries (UNASUR) to do the responsible thing and get involved in the representational politics of their regions.

CARICOM YOUTH REPORT TRANSLATED IN DUTCH AND FRENCH

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat has presented Suriname and Haiti with Dutch and French translations of the 2010 Report on the situation of Caribbean youth.

The presentations were made at the CARICOM - UNASUR High Level Youth Exchange in Paramaribo, Suriname, on Thursday, 14 June, during the youth leaders’ interaction with the CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque.

I would like to congratulate both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs for making this exchange happen here in my beloved country.

CARICOM CHAIRMAN HOSTS HIGH LEVEL CARICOM-UNASUR YOUTH EXCHANGE

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) President of the Republic of Suriname and Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), His Excellency Desi Delano Bouterse is hosting a high level youth exchange between CARICOM youth leaders and young people from the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) in Suriname on Thursday and Friday.

The meeting will be held under the theme: Youth participation for the development of our region; developing our region through cultural connections.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana ) It is my distinct pleasure to address you at the Opening of this Twenty-Fourth Session of the Caribbean Development and Cooperation Committee (CDCC). Let me first express my appreciation to Ms Alicia Barcena, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) for inviting me to share this occasion with you. She and I had a very productive dialogue soon after I assumed office and I look forward to working with her in the interest of the Region.

SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENT ISSUES AS IMPORTANT AS ECONOMIC IN DEVELOPMENT - SG

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana ) Any framework for economic stability and growth should also address social protection policies for the poor and vulnerable groups in our society.

This was the view of the Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Ambassador Irwin LaRocque as he addressed the opening of the Twenty-Fourth Session of the Caribbean Development and Cooperation Committee (CDCC) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).
