PANCAP HOLDS THIRD CAPACITY-BUILDING WORKSHOP FOR PLH

​(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Approximately fifty persons living with HIV (PLH) from 16 Caribbean countries will be trained at a capacity-building workshop hosted by the Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS Coordinating Unit (PANCAP) and the Caribbean Network for People Living with HIV and AIDS.

With funding support from the Global Fund Round 9 Grant, the workshop will be held on 21-22 May, 2013, in Trinidad and Tobago, and is the third workshop on the Caribbean HIV epidemic and the regional response for PLH.

CARICOM MUST BE PREPARED TO FACE SHIFTING GLOBAL PRIORITIES - SG

​(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) must remain alert, proactive and responsive as it confronts the shifting priorities of the world’s dominant players, including its traditional partners.

So said CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, as he addressed the opening session of the 16th meeting of CARICOM’s Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) at the Trinidad Hilton Hotel and Conference Centre, Port of Spain, on Monday night. The Council’s two day working sessions began on Tuesday morning.

COFCOR And Community Council Meet In Port Of Spain This Week

​(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Trinidad and Tobago will be the venue this week for two Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ministerial Council meetings.

The Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) will meet on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th while the Community Council will meet on Thursday 16th. Both meetings will be at the Trinidad Hilton Hotel and Conference Centre in Port of Spain.

SOME IMPORTANT DECISIONS BY ENERGY MINISTERS AT THE 41ST COTED ENERGY

In addition to the approval of the CARICOM Energy Policy and regional level targets for Renewable Energy (RE) contribution to electricity generation of 20%, 28% and 47% for years 2017, 2022 and 2027 respectively, Energy Ministers also approved and agreed on a number of areas for supporting sustainable energy development in CARICOM.   Some of these include, that:

T&T AND GUYANA ENERGY MINISTERS INK MOU ON COOPERATION IN ENERGY RELATED MATTERS

The Governments of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the Cooperative Republic of Guyana on 1 March 2013 signed a Memorandum of Understanding between both countries that seeks to promote greater cooperation in energy and energy related matters over the next two years.

Under the MoU, both parties will meet annually (or sooner, as mutually agreed) to review the status of the cooperation executed under the MOU, which includes support for the following areas:

Executive Development Program on Energy Planning

In March 2013, the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE ) commenced the Executive Development Program on Energy Planning (EDPEP) that targets energy professionals from Government and private sector agencies, Universities and Research Institutes, as well as, Consultants. The broad objective of the Program is to update and improve the knowledge and skills of professionals in issues related to energy planning in countries of the Latin American and Caribbean Region.
