CDB President announces up to US$800M for disaster recovery, amid strong Bank performance in 2017

President of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), Dr. Wm. Warren Smith, today announced that the institution is making USD700 to 800 million (mn) available to help Borrowing Member Countries (BMCs) recover from the impact of the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season. The funding, which the Bank is providing over the next five years, complements its ongoing work to build resilience in the Caribbean Region.

Culture Minister Receives Reparations Report

Barbados has made another step towards the goal of obtaining regional reparations.

This step comes as members of the island’s Reparations Task Force recently presented Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley, with an official report on arguments in support of reparations, in his Ministry’s Conference Room at Sky Mall.

After receiving the document, Mr. Lashley noted that he was very pleased to see the work conducted by the Task Force, which was established in 2012.

Guyana Standards Bureau working with CROSQ on Energy Efficiency Standard

The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) is working collaboratively with the CARICOM Regional Organisation for Standards and Quality (CROSQ) and other CARICOM countries to develop a standard that will address Minimum Energy Performance for Refrigerators, Air Conditioners and Lighting.
This energy efficiency standard is expected to ensure that all appliances imported into Guyana and the CARICOM Region are labelled, that is, the labels must contain information regarding the energy consumption of the appliances such as, an energy guide or rating, brand name and country of origin.

Multi-faceted approach needed to address crime, security challenges

Recognising the need for a multi-faceted approach to address various crime and security challenges in Barbados and across the region, a number of institutions will be working to implement the 10th EDF CARIFORUM Crime and Security Cooperation Programme.
Myrna Bernard, Director of Human Development at the CARICOM Secretariat revealed the above recently, as the programme was launched in Barbados.

CARICOM Secretariat launches Housing Protocol

The Office of the Deputy Secretary-General initiated the Launch of the CARICOM Secretariat Housing Protocol held on Thursday, 28 December 2017 at the CARICOM Secretariat’s Headquarters.  Those in attendance were landlords, property owners and real estate agents as well as the relative Secretariat Staff.
