TRINIDAD-COURT-Former CONCACAF president to file legal action prominent Barbadian jurist

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Austin “Jack” Warner, the former president of the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) says he is taking legal action against prominent Barbadian jurist, Sir David Simmons over the contents of a report that had been damning of him. Sir David had chaired the CONCACAF Ethics Committee that reported Warner as being fraudulent in his management of the football grouping as well as the ownership of the Centre of Excellence here.

TRINIDAD-ENERGY-TT records slight drop in proven gas reserves

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC - Trinidad and Tobago’s proven natural gas reserves have contracted by one per cent last year, but Energy Minister Kevin Ramnarine said the figures show the authorities are “arresting” the decline in recent years.
According to the figures released by the Texas-based consultants, Ryder Scott, Trinidad and Tobago’s proven energy reserves were 13.106 trillion cubic feet (tcf); the probable reserves were 6.142 tcf; and possible reserves were 5.987 tcf.

UNITED STATES CRIME American national given lengthy jail term for child sex tourism offence in Haiti

MIAMI, CMC – A 68-year-old American has been sentenced to 165 years in jail, followed by a lifetime of supervised release, after he was found guilty of child sex tourism offences in Haiti.
Acting United States Assistant Attorney General Mythili Raman, said Matthew Andrew Carter, 68, also known as “William Charles Harcourt” and “Bill Carter” was sentenced by US District Judge Joan A. Lenard of the Southern District of Florida on Wednesday.

British companies looking to Jamaica but have concerns

KINGSTON, Jamaica, Observer - BRITISH High Commissioner to Jamaica David Fitton has indicated that there is some level of interest from companies in Britain that want to set up shop in Jamaica, but says this will depend on a number of factors, including concerns about security. Speaking with the Jamaica Observer in an interview on Monday, Fitton — who took office in June — said that discussions have begun with the firms. However, he did not disclose their names.

GUYANA-COURT-Eight passengers suing Caribbean Airlines

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – More than two years after they were injured when a Caribbean Airlines (CAL) plane overshot the runway at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), eight of the passengers have filed a lawsuit against the Trinidad-based carrier. The passengers through documents filed through their attorneys - Sase Gunraj and Jaya Singh – last last month are each claiming damages in excess of one million dollars (One Guyana dollar = US$0.01 cents) for personal injuries, loss and damage suffered in the crash on July 30, 2011.

Housing and Water Minister Irfaan Ali said that the housing initiative is expected to begin in October, and public should be aware of fraudsters who attempt to sell house lots to them which are only available through the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA).
