American Airline plane given green light to fly to Miami

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – An American Airlines plane left here four and a half hours late on Thursday after security officials here said they had been alerted to a “strange” package placed on board the airline. A statement from the Airport Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (AATT) said that American Airline Flight 2282, which was on its way to Miami “was taxiing at the Piarco International Airport when the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago’s Security Department received a phone call about a security issue aboard the aircraft.

T&T, Guatemala signs Aide-Memoire

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - After two days of extensive dialogue and negotiations, T&T and Guatemala have concluded their final round of negotiations with the signing of an Aide-Memoire on Wednesday at the Ministry of Trade in Port-of-Spain. The Aide-Memoire summarised the items discussed, amended and agreed to over the two-day negotiating period. Present to oversee the signing was the Vasant Bharath, Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment and Iván Espinoza Farfán, Vice Minister, Foreign Affairs Guatemala.

We hear of problems with the fiscal deficit in most islands, along with the pain and stress of civil servants clamouring for wage increases to cushion them against increases in the cost of living. KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC – The ruling Unity Labour Party (ULP) has congratulated president –elect Nicolas Maduro on his victory and has dismissed critics who point to his slim victory in Venezuela.
At least seven people were killed and 61 were injured in post-election violence across Venezuela, state media reported Tuesday.
Violence erupted in Venezuela after authorities rejected opposition candidate Henrique Capriles’ demands for a presidential election recount.

Prominent author/researcher dies

CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC – One of the authors of the history of St. Lucia , Robert Devaux has died after a short battle with cancer. He was 79. Devaux, a field engineer by profession, spent his lifetime the history, ecology, landscape and culture of St Lucia. He served as director of the St. Lucia National Trust and wrote and published several books and articles, including the monumental St Lucia Historic Sites (1975).

Company files lawsuit against Warner
