CARICOM and ILO Sign Significant MOU

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is closer to setting up a labour market information system for the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).

Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRoque, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on behalf of the CARICOM Secretariat with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in June. The MOU allows CARICOM Member States to utilise ‘.Stat’, a software tool, for the facilitation of labour market analysis and other related functions. The MOU was signed at the CARICOM Secretariat’s headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana. 

CARICOM toasts The Bahamas on 43rd Independence anniversary

The Caribbean Community has extended congratulations to The Bahamas on the occasion of its 43rd anniversary of Independence celebrated on 10 July, 2016.

In a message to Prime Minister  the Right Hon. Perry Christie, CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque said that The Bahamas was a valued member of the Community. He also praised The Bahamas for its socio-economic, democratic and political accomplishments

Single Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on Cricket has broad mandate

Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) have decided that there will now be a single Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on Cricket that will handle all aspects of the game.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, Chair of the Conference of Heads of Government said Wednesday evening, that instead of two Prime Ministerial sub-Committees on Cricket – one on Governance and one on other cricket matters – there will now be only one.

Energy efficiency building codes, standards in focus in Grenada

More than 50 regional and international experts will gather at a three-day workshop in Grenada, next week, to advance efforts toward the development and implementation of energy efficiency building codes and energy performance standards for Caribbean buildings.

CARICOM’s SG reads tribute at Manning’s funeral

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque on Saturday paid  tribute, on behalf of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community, at the state funeral for former Prime Minister Mr. Patrick Manning.

The Tribute was  drafted at the just concluded 37th CARICOM Heads of Government meeting in Guyana, at which all Member States were represented.

Statement by CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin Larocque on the Passing of Mr Patrick Manning, Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago

The CARICOM Standard was flown at half-staff at the Headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana, Friday as a mark of respect for the late former Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Mr. Patrick Manning. This will continue until Mr. Manning’s funeral on Saturday.

Mr. Manning, who led the twin-island Republic from 1990-95 and again from 2001 – 2010, died on Saturday at the age of 69.
