‘I’m not under house arrest’

PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD - Daryan Warner, the eldest son of National Security Minister Jack Warner, has dismissed speculation that he is under house arrest in the United States.
However, he has steadfastly refused to comment on if he is the subject of any investigation by federal authorities there.
Warner, 47, spoke to the Express in an exclusive interview (that ran on TV6 News last night) at his penthouse suite in Miami, Florida, where we tracked him down last Wednesday.

Former government minister dies

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Former government minister and diplomat John Donaldson jr died Tuesday at a private hospital after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 71 years old.
Donaldson served as Minister of National Security from 1976 to 1985 and also as Minister of Foreign Affairs in People’s Movement (PNM) administrations.

National Security Minister stands ground on illegal flying squad unit

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – National Security Minister Austin “Jack” Warner Tuesday maintained that he had no knowledge of an illegal flying squad operating in Trinidad and Tobago and like the rest of the population he was “anxiously awaiting” the outcome of an investigation ordered by Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar into the matter.

JA T&T signs US$55,000 WEAmericas Grant

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - On March 13, Chargé d’Affaires at the United States Embassy Thomas Smitham and Junior Achievement of T&T’s Chief Executive Officer, J Errol Lewis, signed a US$55,000 grant to pave the way for a project to provide business development training; mentorship and access to loans for young women. The grant was made available under the Women’s Entrepreneurship in the Americas (WEAmericas) Small Grants Initiative.

Former judge sworn in as Trinidad and Tobago’s fifth head of state

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC - Former High Court judge, Anthony Carmona, 60, was sworn in as Trinidad and Tobago’s fifth head of state on Monday at a public ceremony held at the Hasley Crawford Stadium, on the outskirts of the capital.
In a ceremony carried live on radio and television, Carmona, a graduate of the University of the West Indies (UWI) and the Hugh Wooding Law School, succeeds educator George Maxwell Richards, who ended a 10 year term in the ceremonial post on Sunday.
