Dookeran signs Arms Trade Treaty

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - Foreign Minister Winston Dookeran yesterday signed the Arms Trade Treaty which establishes common international standards for the movement across borders of conventional arms and ammunition. When the Treaty comes into effect after 60 nations have signed and ratified it, illegal guns which end up in the hands of local criminals will be traced since records will be kept on the movement of guns from the manufacturer, across borders, to end users.

CAL issues ‘of great concern’

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Portia Simpson-Miller, has said the relationship between Caribbean Airlines Ltd (CAL) and the carrier it acquired in 2011, Air Jamaica, is a “great cause of concern for the Jamaican people”. Simpson-Miller made the comment while speaking to reporters yesterday at the Hilton Trinidad and Conference Centre, St Ann’s, in response to questions on the issue.

Kamla to visit China in November

China announces major concessionary funding facility for Caribbean

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – China Sunday announced a three billion US dollar concessionary facility for eight Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries as President Xi Jingping ended a three-day state visit to Trinidad and Tobago.
The Chinese leader met with leaders of the CARICOM countries that have diplomatic relations with Beijing rather than Taiwan that China regards as a renegade province in bilateral discussions and later at a luncheon.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - The man leading the probe into “emailgate” said yesterday there was no prejudice in the investigation and he will not let politics tarnish his work. Deputy Commissioner of Police Mervyn Richardson, in a brief telephone interview with the Express, said the police did not leak any information to the media, following an interview with Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley on Tuesday. Gill manufactures pans using barrels that are custom-made for them, using precise specifications to ensure accurate tuning.
A representative of the company told the Express the low tenor in the scale of C was ordered by the Office of the Prime Minister.
