Chinese President to pay State visit

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, is to pay a three-day State visit to Trinidad and Tobago, the Office of the Prime Minister has announced. Agri group in bid to boost food security

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - The Trinidad and Tobago Agri-Business Association (TTABA) is one of the collaborating partners in a regional initiative to boost food security. The project with the University of Wageningenin the Netherlands targets Barbados, Belize, St Kitts/Nevis and T&T and is aimed an ensuring food supplies “over the long term, in the midst of the constantly changing agro-ecological environment and for conserving and utilising the selected germplasm”, project coordinator Norman Gibson said.

Gonsalves wants CAL talks by next week

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines Dr Ralph Gonsalves has expressed hope that he can meet with Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar within the next week over the contentious fuel subsidy to State-owned carrier Caribbean Airlines Ltd (CAL) on competing routes with regional airline LIAT. He expressed hope that he could have a meeting with her before he returns to this country on May 28 for the meeting with US Vice President Joe Biden, but he has not been able to “get a time organised”.

Opposition Leader dismisses threat to declare him bankrupt

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Opposition Leader Dr. Keith Rowley has dismissed moves by Attorney General Anand Ramlogan to have a court declare him bankrupt over the non-payment of legal fees. Last week, Ramlogan initiated court proceedings against Rowley to recover the TT$12,000 (One TT dollar = US$0.16 cents) owed to him from a court order made on January 14 this year. But Rowley told the Trinidad Express Monday that the move by the attorney general is designed as a “pre-emptive strike to try and intimi­date me in the motion of no confidence” that comes up for debate on Monday.
