CARICOM to monitor November 20 rescheduled elections in Haiti

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will be monitoring the Presidential Elections in Haiti, rescheduled to Sunday 20 November 2016. The elections which were initially scheduled for Sunday 9 October 2016, were postponed after Hurricane Matthew pummeled Haiti and left in its wake death, destruction and displacement of people. CARICOM’s Electoral Observer Mission will be on the ground in Haiti from 16-23 November. Dr. Steve Surujbally, Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission will lead the Mission which was requested by Haiti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Pierrot Délienne.

CARICOM convenes 17th Meeting of the CARICOM Council for National Security and Law Enforcement

The Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM’s) Council for National Security and Law Enforcement (CONSLE) meets for its 17th meeting on 21 November 2016, at the Headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown. Under the chairmanship of Barbados’ Attorney-General and Minister of  Home Affairs, Hon. Adriel Brathwaite, QC, MP,  CARICOM  Ministers with responsibility for  National Security are   expected to consider for approval,  the CARICOM Cyber Security and Cyber Crime Action Plan (CCSCAP).

CARICOM Energy Month gets going

CARIBBEAN citizens will, over the next few weeks, have the opportunity to get in the know on how to cut their fuel costs while exchanging ideas  on solutions to the energy challenges facing the Caribbean.

All this, courtesy of the observation of November as CARICOM Energy Month (CEM), which is being celebrated under the theme “Sustainable Energy for Sustainable Development” #SE4SD.

CARICOM congratulates US President-elect

Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit of Dominica has congratulated President-elect of the United States of America, Mr. Donald Trump on his victory in last Tuesday’s Presidential elections.

The CARICOM Chairman extended best wishes to Mr. Trump for a successful tenure and said he would welcome the opportunity to engage at the earliest opportunity.

CARICOM, South Africa solidify diplomatic relations

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and South Africa on Thursday strengthened the long-standing diplomatic relations with the accreditation of a new High Commissioner, Her Excellency Xoliswa Ngwevela.

In accepting her letters of credence, Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque said it was a “symbolic reaffirmation of the determination of South Africa and the Member States of CARICOM to augment a long tradition of friendship, solidarity and the promotion of shared values, not just amongst ourselves, but in the global sphere.”
