CARICOM, Cuba Foreign Ministers meet in Havana

 Foreign Ministers from the Caribbean Community and their counterpart from the Republic of Cuba are meeting on Saturday 11 March 2017 for their fifth Ministerial Meeting in Havana.

 CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has praised the late former President of Haiti Mr. Rene Preval for his critical role in promoting stability, development, democracy and the rule of law in his country following trying periods of political turbulence and natural and man-made disasters.

We must rally around the Every Caribbean Woman Every Caribbean Child Initiative - UNSE

This is the  charge from the United Nations Secretary-General Special Envoy(UNSE)  for HIV and AIDS in the Caribbean, Dr. Edward Greene, in his message on the occasion of the International Women’s Day 2017, being observed on 8 March 2017.

 

Titled Let us together do what it takes to #be bold for Change, the UNSE also called  for the “…support of programmes intended to make the Caribbean the first region in the world to eliminate mother-to-child transmission of HIV”.

CARICOM RBM System ….a paradigm shift in the way work we work -

This is the position of Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Deputy Secretary-General, Dr. Manorma Soeknandan, who delivered remarks to  the Results Based Management (RBM) Workshop which opened at the CARICOM headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana on 6 March 2017.
 
In her remarks, Dr. Soeknandan reiterated the necessity for the RBM System stating “the development, implementation and sustainability of the CARICOM RBM System is  necessary and timely to advance the regional integration process”.

CARICOM prepares positions on imminent UN oceans agreement

Senior environment officials from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) met recently in Belize as CARICOM rationalises its position on the United Nations (UN) process to establish an international legally binding agreement on sustainable use of marine resources.

The two-day workshop held 20-22 February 2017, in Belize City, Belize, was titled, ‘CARICOM Regional Workshop on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity beyond Areas of National Jurisdiction’.

Rene Preval, two-time president of Haiti, dead at 74 – Miami Herald

Former Haitian President René Préval has died, his wife Elisabeth Delatour Préval confirmed to the Miami Herald. He was 74.

Préval, who was president during Haiti’s tragic Jan. 12, 2010 earthquake, died at home in Laboule, a neighbourhood in Port-au-Prince. His wife, who wasn’t with him, said she had spoken to him “three times” Friday morning.

“He was in excellent humour,” said Delatour Préval, who is traveling. “He asked, ‘When are you coming home?’ I refused to believe it. I cannot believe it.”
