`Believe in agriculture’ – rallying call at CWA 2013 opening

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The Caribbean Week of Agriculture (CWA) 2013 was formally opened on Wednesday evening with rallying calls for belief in the agricultural potential of the Region, and action, at all levels, to realize that potential.
At the Guyana International Conference Centre at Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown, where activities of the twelfth edition of CWA are anchored, speakers at the opening ceremony were confident about the movement towards food security and the alleviation of poverty.

Stakeholder Consultation to Examine Entry of CARIFORUM Entertainers in the EU Market

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Public and private sector stakeholders drawn from the Cultural Industry of the Caribbean Forum of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (CARIFORUM) are to participate in a Stakeholder Consultation on the Development of a Strategic Action Plan for the Entry of CARIFORUM Entertainers in the European Union (EU) Market, to be held in St George’s, Grenada from 14-15 October.

CCJ judgement will shift way business is conducted in Community - CARICOM Secretary-General

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen Greater Georgetown, Guyana)      Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, has called on CARICOM Member States that have not taken the necessary steps to make the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) their final court of appeal, to do so.
Ambassador LaRocque was speaking during a conference at the University of the West Indies, Regional Headquarters in Kingston, Jamaica on Tuesday hosted by the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute for Social and Economic Studies (SALISES).

ICTs a way towards a successful future in agriculture

GEORGETOWN, Guyana -- The use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) within the agriculture industry is a tool for changing the agricultural sector in the Caribbean.

Speaking at the launch of a two-day workshop entitled “Strengthening ICTs in Agricultural Value Chains – Towards increased integration in ICTs for growth and productivity”, Michael Hailu, director, Technical Centre for Agriculture and Rural Development (CTA) said, the use of ICTs creates “huge opportunities for farming communities and young people”.

The CWA is being held under the theme `Linking the Caribbean for Regional Food and Nutrition Security and Rural Development’.
