(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is viewing the Third International Meeting on Small Island Developing States (UNSIDS) in Apia, Samoa, 1-4 September, 2014 as an important opportunity to engage the international community on the development challenges facing the Region.

These enhancements include a process of preparing for a Seven Pillar Assessment that provides assurance that practices are in place to ensure successful implementation and accountability.

Jessica Ramnauth of Brickdam Secondary School, Guyana, was awarded US$750 for placing second, while Justin-Timothy Frater of Cornwall College, Jamaica, won the US$500 third prize.
(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) CARICOM’s Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) has approved a Strategy and Plan to reduce the number of adolescent pregnancies in each country of the English- and Dutch speaking Caribbean by at least 20 %, over the five year period 2014 – 2019.
The plan was developed by a multi-sectoral and multidisciplinary Regional Task Force led by UNFPA in collaboration with the CARICOM Secretariat.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Training for the region’s at-risk youth continues to grow, with the launch of the Creativity for Employment and Business, CEBO programme in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, July 21-26 2014.
Targeting at-risk youth age 15-29, CEBO is a tool to engage, inspire and create entrepreneurial interest and action among young CARICOM nationals as a means of countering youth unemployment, mitigating drug abuse, crime and violence and fostering economic resilience.
A group of young people in Guyana began foundational training in computer animation on Monday (28 July) aimed at safeguarding cultural heritage, steering young people away from crime and violence, and offering them a different career option.
