French Guiana

French Guiana is an overseas department and region of France situated on the north-eastern coast of South America, bordered by Suriname to the west, Brazil to the south and east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the north. Renowned for its rich biodiversity and vast tropical rainforest, the territory is home to diverse cultures, including Indigenous peoples, Creole, European, Asian, and other communities.

As an integral part of France and the European Union, French Guiana has a unique political and economic status within the Caribbean and South American regions. It is internationally recognised for hosting the Guiana Space Centre at Kourou, one of the world's space launch facilities, which contributes significantly to scientific research and technological innovation.

French Guiana maintains close ties with the Caribbean through regional cooperation and is an Associate Member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), contributing to initiatives that promote sustainable development, environmental stewardship, economic collaboration, and regional integration.
