ANTIGUA-GAMING-Antigua takes its case against United State to WTO again

GENEVA, CMC - Antigua and Barbuda will once again raise its ongoing cross-border gambling services dispute with the United States when the Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) of the World Trade Organization meets here on Wednesday. According to the agenda distributed ahead of the meeting, Antigua and Barbuda will make a statement regarding the implementation of the recommendations and rulings adopted by the DSB in the dispute.

UPDATE-CARIBBEAN-POLITICS-Grenada says it has met its financial obligations to United Nations

ST.GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – Grenada says it has paid in full the arrears owed to the United Nations and as a result has regained its voting rights at the international body. Grenada was listed among three Caribbean Community (CARICOM) governments owing the United Nations, according to a January 15 letter UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon sent to the President of the General Assembly. Grenada is said to have owed US$40,100 while while St. Lucia is in arrears to the tune of US$35,727 and Dominica US$7, 231.

GUYANA-AGRICULTURE-Guyana to host Caribbean Week of Agriculture 2013

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Guyana will host the Caribbean Week of Agriculture (CWA) this year after a 10-year hiatus, senior programme coordinator of the Technical Centre for Agriculture and Rural Cooperation (CTA) Jose Fonseca announced Monday. The CWA, usually held in October, provides opportunities to profile aspects of agriculture in the Caribbean and affords regional agriculture ministers an occasion to seek to give meaning to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Agricultural Policy.

Government responds to controversial German advertisement

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC - The Government has responded to concerns surrounding the controversial advertisement by German appliance company Saturn, which includes images showing the improper handling of the Jamaican flag. A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday said the commercial appears to be well intentioned, as it seeks to use the powerful symbolism of Brand Jamaica to project the products and services of Saturn.

Former top cop murdered

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington has described as “shameless, heartless and senseless” the murder of retired deputy superintendent of police, Denzil Boyd, 63, who was shot and killed at his home in the Corporate Area on Sunday. The murder of the well-known former crime fighter has sparked anger among members of the police force, with the Police High Command making it clear that those responsible will be found and brought to justice.
