SINGLE MARKET, CWC 2007 AMONG INTER-SESSIONAL AGENDA FOR CARICOM HEADS

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Seventeenth Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will convene in Trinidad and Tobago from 9-10 February.

High on the agenda for deliberation among Heads of Government are issues related to the CARICOM Single Market, including the completion of arrangements for participation by Member States, and to bring the Development Fund into operation.

JAMAICA PLEDGES TO DEVELOPMENT FUND

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Jamaica, on Tuesday at the Second Special Meeting of the Council for Finance and Planning (COFAP), joined Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago in making an initial pledge to the regional Development Fund. Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago had made initial pledges last December at the First Special Meeting of COFAP.

I welcome the opportunity to speak to you at the official launch of the CARICOM Single Market. This is my first address as Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Government; and I wish to start by saying that Trinidad and Tobago is honoured and especially privileged to be in the Chair at this momentous time. We aim to do our utmost to advance the regional agenda.

STATEMENT BY THE HON. PATRICK MANNING, PRIME MINISTER, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO AND CHAIRMAN OF THE CONFERENCE OF HEADS OF GOVERNMENT OF THE CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY (CARICOM), ON THE OCCASION OF THE LAUNCH OF THE CARICOM SINGLE MARKET ON 01 JANUARY 2006

Today, 1st January 2006 the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) takes one of its most significant steps in the process of regional integration, as the CARICOM Single Market becomes a reality.

It is my privilege and honour that on this historic day I assume the chairmanship of the Caribbean Community until 30 June 2006 during which time Trinidad and Tobago will host the 17th Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Heads of Government of the Community on the 9th and 10th of February.

CARICOM Secretary-General Congratulates Trinidad and Tobago’s National Football Team

TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO TO HOST CARIFESTA IX, SEPTEMBER 2006

  (CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Festival of Arts –CARIFESTA-has been revived and restructured and will be held in Trinidad and Tobago from Friday the 22 of September to Sunday the 1st of October 2006.
