As the international community observes World Oceans Day 2025 on 8 June, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) reaffirms its solidarity and deep commitment to collective action in the sustainable management of our ocean, a vital and expansive natural resource central to the Region’s identity, economy, and future.
Caribbean youth were represented by a powerful voice at the United Nations on Monday as Luke James-Trim, CARICOM Youth Ambassador for Trinidad and Tobago, took the international stage during the Caribbean Regional Breakout Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum. Representing the Region, James-Trim delivered an inspiring intervention highlighting the enduring strength of Caribbean partnerships and the need for inclusive development models.
The identification of ministerial leads for negotiations around sustainable development and the environment ensures the amplification of the needs and concerns of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Ms. Amrikha Singh, Programme Manager, Sustainable Development at the CARICOM Secretariat said.
Last year, in preparation for COP 29 negotiations, the Region identified Ministerial Champions to enhance its representation and coordination. The Champions for key areas of negotiation are:

As the Region seeks to consolidate integration in the year ahead, we look forward to continued collaboration with our stakeholders and partners, including the CARICOM Committee of Ambassadors and CARICOM Youth Ambassadors, as well as the guidance of the Bureau of the Conference, which will comprise Barbados, Grenada and Jamaica effective 1 January 2025.
Through it all, our modus operandi has been to speak with one voice and to premise all our interactions on the vision of a Caribbean Community, which is truly “A Community for All”.
