Government announces investigation into destruction Maya archaeological site
BELMOPAN, Belize, CMC – The Belize government says it has launched a “vigorous” investigation into the into the circumstances surrounding the near total destruction of the Maya archaeological site known as Noh Mul in northern Belize. Police are also investigating the matter and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, the National Institute of Culture and History and the Belize Tourism Board have expressed outraged at the destruction of the Noh Mul archaeological site in the Orange Walk district.
Government to pay public servants salary increases
CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC – The St. Lucia government says it will pay a four per cent increase to all public servants even though members of the Civil Service Association (CSA) had voted last month to reject the government’s offer and settle for a wage freeze. Government said that the increase will be a one per cent in the first year followed by a 1.5 per cent hike for the remaining two years. Public Service Minister Dr. James Fletcher said CSA members still had the option of writing to their respective permanent secretaries informing of their wish not to receive the salary increases.
Former government ministers hint at forming new party
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, CMC – Two former senior government ministers, including former deputy prime minister Sam Condor, have hinted at the possibility of forming a new political party that could likely contest the next general elections in St. Kitts-Nevis. Condor and former senior minister Dr. Timothy Harris said while they are still considering contesting the polls as independent candidates “we’ll probably form a party.
